Let Your Light Shine
"Let your light so shine before me, that they may see your good works and glorify your Father in Heaven." Matthew 5:16

This verse has become personal prayer for me. Every day, I pray, “Lord, let my light shine so that when people see me, they see You. Let me life draw people closer to You.”
The truth is, most of us will come into contact with a person who may never walk through the doors of a church. They may never pick up a Bible. At least not right away. And long before they ever listen to a sermon, they will watch the lives of the people who call themselves Christians. They will see how we respond when we’re stressed. How we treat the cashier who’s having a bad day. How we speak about people when they’re not in the room. How we handle disappointment, conflict and even success and if our faith is visible beyond Sunday morning.
When we read the command that Jesus gave to go out and make disciples of all nations (Matthew 28:18-20), I think sometimes we put pressure on ourselves to have all the right words, all the right answers or the perfect testimony not realizing that the most powerful testimony we could ever have is simply a life that consistently reflects Jesus. Not a perfect life. Just a genuine one. This is why I regularly ask myself, do people see the fruit of the Spirit in me? Do they see love when it's easier to be impatient? Do they see kindness in a world that can be harsh? Do they see peace when everyone else is anxious? Do they see self-control when emotions are running high?
In a culture where people are hungry for authenticity, the fruit of the Spirit stands out. It shines. Our light isn't found in how much we know or how many Bible verses we can quote. Our light shines when Christ's character becomes visible in our everyday lives.
Today, wherever you go, remember that people are watching for signs of Jesus in you and a kind word, a patient response, a helping hand, or a spirit of grace may point someone toward God more than you realize.
